Meet our featured Wixii™, Kristen Race. She is in her 40’s and mother to an 11 year daughter and 9 year old son.  She received her Bachelor of Science, University of Colorado at Boulder, Master’s in Educational Psychology – University of Denver, Ph.D. – Child Family and School Psychology, University of Denver.  She currently is an educator, author and public speaker on mindfulness.

An interesting fact about Kristen:
I spent a summer in college working for a bungee jumping company, I jumped over 100 times. None of this was as terrifying as giving my first TEDx talk!

Dr. Kristen Race is the author of Mindful Parenting, and founder of Mindful Life.  Kristen fuses the science of the brain with simple mindfulness strategies for adults and children, all designed to create resiliency towards stress.  Her work has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and she is a regular blogger for The Huffington Post and Psychology Today.  Dr. Race has trained over 2000 leaders in her methods worldwide.

I am a recovering perfectionist. :)

I typically wake up around 5 am and try to get 2 hours of work in before waking the kids and getting them off to school at 7:45 am. I then meditate and workout arriving at my office around 10 am.  I try to pick up my kids from school on most days, depending on my workload.  Everyday is different which is one of the things I love about my job.

Family: how do you build meaningful relationships with the people who matter most in your life?
In general I try to think about the quality, rather than the quantity of time that I spend with those who matter most to me.  I do my best to be present in my relationships, to be a good listener, to be thoughtful in my responses, to put my phone away as much as possible, and be grateful for all of the good in my life.

What specific actions, choices, steps and/or decisions have you made (or would you like to make) to better manage your work-life mix? 
I try to exercise and meditate everyday, I practice gratitude with my family, I set boundaries with regard to working from home, I place great value on date night, I am very intentional about creating meaningful interactions with my kids, and creating fun family rituals.
