2013.8.1 Let Us Find Our Sweet Life“My name is Bill, and I am with the Federal Heights paramedics,” said the voice on the other end of my cell phone.  Okay, officially my heart stopped.  These moments of parenting (boys!) truly challenge my illusion of control over my sons’ well-being.  Fortunately, according to the paramedic my son was fine (phew, but which son?  I have three!), despite having fallen and hit his head at the water park .  Other than an abrasion and a significant goose egg, he looked to be okay.  Couldn’t he have started with everyone is okay, however, your son (identify which one please!) fell and they were following protocol to call me?  This incident reminds me, yet again, of the fragility of life and the importance to embrace it.

Our Wixii, Kristi Orr, shares how she embraced her passions and combined with her skills created her current business, Sweetlife Adventures, “[w]hen our third baby was 18 months old, it was time to take a break from full-time work.  Juggling three toddlers and travel had many perks but it suddenly felt like the right time to be home.  It was during this time that I parlayed a little group I had organized for women to get together for various outings (snowshoeing, rock climbing, etc) into my current company, Sweetlife Adventures.  Sweetlife Adventures empowers women through unique experiences that nurture mind & body in safe, social and supportive settings.  Adventures range from doing standup paddle at sunset to learning the Michael Jackson Thriller dance.  As women, taking care of ourselves is so important so that we can be our best for our family, our friends, our community, and the world.  The Sweetlife mission is to make a positive impact on the world, one empowered woman at a time.”

My own mix is busy, sometimes bordering on insanity, leaving little time for fine tuning, let alone research to pursue new ventures.  Until recently, I always thought I would have time after the current chaos passes, be it the holidays, ski season, or summer travel.  However, by embracing our family’s hectic reality of our raising three wonderful (and at moments, heart-stopping) sons, while both my husband and I work, including the growth of Women in the Mix, and all other many elements making a full life at this stage, this week’s Wixii-Read truly empowers me to push on, and I hope it will do the same for you: “It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to start a business, lose weight, write a book, or achieve any number of goals… who you are, what you have, and what you know right now is good enough to get going… If you want to summarize the habits of successful people into one phrase, it’s this: successful people start before they feel ready.”

In that spirit, ready or not, let’s all go for one thing that we having been holding back from, whether in the element of work, self, children, or community and see what happens.  Please share your results or experiences on our Facebook page or contact us directly.  Remember, life is a learning experience, not an exercise in perfection.
