At Women in the Mix, we focus on what individual Wixii women CAN do to thrive more in their work-life mix; however, we are acutely aware that many variables outside our individual control shape and affect the choices we make. Economists have long observed strong links between family-friendly policies and labor force participation among women. The U.S. is one of five countries in the world that does not offer paid maternity leave, and only 12% of of U.S. workers get paid time off to care for a baby or a sick parent. Thus, in our quest to thrive, we must also concern ourselves with what is happening in terms of legislation and policy.
