In those moments when I need a pick-me-up, I am practicing putting a big smile on my face. Whenever I find myself spiraling down a path of frustration, resentment, or bitterness—feeling like I am purely in survival mode—I turn up the corners of my mouth and flash an exaggerated smile. I know it sounds cheesy, and I often feel like a goofball, but that’s the point—to laugh at the situation/to smile at myself. Once that smile is there, my spirits lift and whatever I was stewing about starts to dissipate. Give it a try!
